The liver does most of the detoxifying of your body and toxins are often excreted by the gut in stool, or in sweat or urine. Because of potential stress on your liver and GI tract, deep detoxification should only be performed under Ayurvedic Doctor supervision. However mild cleansing of the GI tract and liver is recommended, while avoiding stress on these hardworking organs. Cleansing can simply mean eating a simplified diet for several days and allowing your system to reset. For example, a spring cleanse is beneficial after the rich diet during the winter months and the stored fat is mobilized, resulting in higher cholesterol levels in the blood.
